She has worked in the education profession for 43 years and has experience at the pre-school through high school level. Merrily received her bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from Duquesne University. She has worked in many school settings. She pursued additional training after serving on a preschool special education assessment team in order to improve her skills. She completed a year-long post graduate certification program for neuroscience at the American Board of School Neuroscience. There is a professional interest in the impact of childhood trauma on learning. Merrily was an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri where she developed and instructed several units for graduate level coursework on learning and the brain. The annual Conference on Advancing School Mental Health is sponsored by the Center for School Mental Health.
