She received her PhD in Child and Family Studies from The University of Tennessee in 2012 and is an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the UNC School of Medicine. There are roles that self-compassion andMindfulness play in promoting well-being in youth. She has been called the world’s leading researcher on the impact of self-compassion and teens. The internationally trained teachers are in this program. She received funding for ground-breaking research on the role of self-compassion in well-being for teens through a grant from the Mind and Life Foundation. With funding from the John Rex Foundation and the National Institute of Health, she and her colleagues have begun to explore the benefits of self-compassion in at-risk teen populations. The author of the book The Self-Compassion Workbook for Teens:Mindfulness and Compassion Skills to Overcome Self-Criticism and Embrace Who You Are is an associate editor of the academic journalMindfulness. Her research has been featured in a number of magazines and websites. Dr. Bluth has been a teacher of self-compassion and meditation for almost 40 years, has 18 years of classroom experience, and is frequently invited to give talks, conduct workshops, train teachers, and teach classes in self-compassion and meditation in educational and community settings internationally.
